Ada May “Toots” (Messer) Bishop, (76), of Punxsutawney, PA passed away in the Punxsutawney Hospital on September 7, 2021 after an extended illness.
Ada was born July 14, 1945 in Deerfield, NJ and was the daughter of the late George and Reba Messer. She was a 1964 graduate of Delsea Regional High School and enlisted in the USAF after graduation.
Ada is preceded in death by her parents, her bothers Thomas, Joseph and Steve Messer, her first husband Chester RA Thompson and in-laws Calvin and Della Bishop.
She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Calvin “Dick” Bishop, daughter Debby (Tom) Stahl, Mt. Joy, PA, son Reginald Sr. (Tammy) Thompson, Portage, PA, step son Dr. Richard (Julie) Bishop, Punxsutawney, PA., step daughter Nicki Bishop, Ohio, brother George Messer, Jr of NJ and brother in law Bill (Wanda) Bishop of Punxsutawney, PA.
Ada is also survived by several grand children: Christopher (Rachel) Gottberg, Reginald Jr, Shyenne and Ariella “Ellie May” Thompson, Austin and Walker Childers, Carsyn Bishop, Alysa, Anthony and AJ Winterburn as well as her Great grandchildren: Joseph “Jo Jo” Gottberg, Owen, Eziekel, Samantha and Oliver Thompson and Braxton Levy.
She is also survived by a special nephew Ethan Bishop, USCG active and her four legged companions Crosby and Hank.
Ada retired with 26 years of service in the US Air Force as a Master Sargent of Base Commands. She was also an integral part of the administrative staff for the 757th Flying Squadron at the Youngstown Air Base.
Ada was a member of the Rossiter American Legion Post #582 and was the first and only women member of the Honor Guard.
Ada enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening and spending time with her family. She looked forward to the Veteran’s and Friend’s picnic which she and her husband Dick began hosting several years ago on their property.
Ada’s funeral care has been entrusted to the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home of Punxsutawney, PA.
Public visitation will be held from 2 PM – 4 PM and from 6 PM-8 PM on Friday September 10, 2021 at the funeral home.
A graveside funeral service and burial will take place at Pine Church Cemetery, with Pastor Janet Chiplis presiding, at 10 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
