Donald Ray Adams Sr.

Donald Ray Adams Sr., 75, of Mercer, PA, passed away Thursday, April 25th, 2024, peacefully at his home. Upon his death he was reunited with his true love and wife of 55 years, Deborah Susane Adams. Don was born August 1st, 1948 to Ronzel Dwight Sr. and Olive "Jackie" (Boggs) Adams in Ward, West Virginia. He is survived by his four children; Rene (Steve) Casino; Marcie (Lonnie) Westover; Katina (Shawn) Walker; Donald (Shanna) Adams Jr; eleven grandchildren; Bradley Kinzel; Kendra (Tenger) Batjargal; Adrianna (Luke) Slater; Adam (Emma) Walker; Donald "Trey" (Liz Jeker) Adams III; Chance Westover; Aiden Westover; Brodee Westover; Ethan Adams; Alexandra "Lexie" Walker and Kirstin Adams; one great granddaughter; Rowan Deborah Slater; one brother (Ronzel Adams Jr.). In addition to his wife, Don is preceded in passing by four sisters; Janis Alix;  Shirley Sterns; Sybil Williams; Caroline Adams; and one brother; Randall Adams. A true patriot, Don proudly served his beloved country in the Vietnam War as a medical specialist and truck driver in Camp Zama, Japan. After his military service he went on to work at Chrysler Corp in Richmond, Virginia as a Shipping Clerk. Later he returned to Pennsylvania to work at National Castings as a Maintenance Worker in Sharon, PA. He also worked as a Driver for Interstate Auto Auction and a Night Watchman at Bill McCandless Ford/Mercury in Mercer, PA. Don's longest tenure was as a Corrections Officer at the State Corrections Institute in Mercer, PA where he garnered the nickname "Gomez" and eventually retired in 2012. A hard worker with a zest for life Don never truly retired. Instead he devoted himself to his family, his beloved hobby farm, helping others in need, and cherishing his time with his wife. A devout Christian, Don was a member of Pulaski Village Church. He was a beloved member of the congregation and Sunday mornings won't be the same without his wonderful sense of humor and steady presence in the pews. Don had a special gift for making people laugh with his silly sense of humor and contagious smile. He had a way with people; an excellent teacher, peacemaker, one of a kind, a friend to anyone who needed him, always the bigger person, compassionate, empathetic, and loved by anyone who knew him. Don was a lover of animals, all kinds (mostly), and he rarely met an animal that he didn't try to hold. He enjoyed spending time in nature and was an avid hunter. A passion which he enjoyed sharing with children and grandchildren. Blessed with a green thumb and a wonderful garden, you'd rarely visit Don without leaving with a bag full of veggies and fruit. Don loved deeply and approached life with a deep rooted gratitude that transcended all aspects of his life. Don did not just see his blessings he marveled in them. A day rarely passed where he didn't say with a heart full grace how blessed each of us were. Don faced any challenges with a steadiness rooted in a strong belief that love, hard work, and faith will help lead you through any valley.  He lived with a purpose and passion that inspired everyone he met. Don will be incredibly missed. His discipline, resilience, kindness, and love will live on in the lives of everyone he touched for generations to come. True love was a staple of Don's life. A love story that began as two teenagers falling in love in a diner became the foundation of a family of three generations. It is hard to separate the where Don and Deb each as individuals began and ended. Each complimented each other so perfectly with a devotion and unwavering loyalty few have encountered. If you were fortunate enough to witness Don and Deb together you'd realize that soulmates didn't exist in fictional movies or novels, but rather in this couple from a quiet town in rural Pennsylvania. Those who loved Don take comfort in knowing that he is at peace in the arms of his wife in the home of His Lord. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 3pm to 7pm at the Tower Presbyterian Church, 248 S. Broad St, Grove City, PA 16127. A funeral service will take place on Monday, April 29, 2024, also at Tower Presbyterian Church, beginning at 11:00am and officiated by Pastor Dan Hall, Pastor Marcia Grim, and Pastor Becky Rosengarth. Interment will take place at Findley Cemetery, Mercer County, PA. Military Honors will be performed by the West Middlesex VFW and the Wheatland American Legion.
