Lillian (Sackash) Gilga, 84, of Sykesville, PA, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, surrounded by family at her daughters home. She was born on May 14, 1939, to the late Michael Sackash Sr. and Anna (Bodner) Sackash in Kramer, PA. Lillian attended school within the Kramer and Sykesville School. She was a hardworking woman who held positions at Rola-Jensen, BF Goodrich, JC Penney, and retired from Owens-Illinois in Brockway, PA. Lillian married George M. Gilga Sr. on December 2, 1961, on George’s birthday, in Sykesville, PA; George preceded her in passing on November 14, 1996. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville. Lillian was very family oriented, she enjoyed having Sunday dinners and holidays at her home. She enjoyed making cookie trays for her children and their families. She took first place in the “nut roll” contest at the “Slavic Festival” in Johnstown, PA in 2021. She loved cookouts and roasting bacon over the fire with her family. Lillian loved music along with playing cards with her family and siblings. She, along with her sisters, brothers, and niece would get together once a week for card night, laughing and reminiscing together. Most of all, Lillian enjoyed being the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family. She was a very kind, thoughtful, and generous person at heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Lillian is survived by three children; George “Mike” M. (Michelle) Gilga Jr.; Lori (John) Connor Jr.; Mark J. (Beth) Gilga; five grandchildren; John F. (Tina) Connor III; Ryan M. Connor; G. Michael Gilga III; Heather R. Gilga; Marissa A. Gilga; two great grandchildren; Kylie Connor; Kelsey Connor; and one sister; Catherine Butkewich. In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was preceded in passing by ten siblings; Anna Foradori; Dorothy Rimer; Sophie Kennis; Mike Sackash; Verna Minns; George Sackash; Mary Gresock; Dolly Pindrock; Henry (Sonny) Sackash; and Eugene “Butch” Sackash. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A second viewing will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 9am to 10am, also at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, 104 Shaffer St., Sykesville, PA 15865, beginning at 11:00am and officiated by Father Vasyl Banyk. Interment will take place at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Sykesville, Jefferson Co., PA. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church.
